Two weeks ago I went to the service station to fill-up the car. After filling up the vehicle inexplicably went to the office without collecting the money. It was as if she forgot about me. I looked at the other attendants and none of them were paying any attention to me. A thought crossed my mind to just drive-off. I could easily have done that and gotten awat with it, because nobody knew who I was and no-one had taken down my vehicle’s registration number. So, I could have done it, but I didn’t. Instead of driving away, I waited a little while. When the attendant took too long I summoned another attendant… explained to her what happened, then gave her the money that was due and left. As I was driving off the other attendant returned and was informed by her colleague what had happened and she waved at me in appreciation. Why didn’t I leave without paying? Why did I choose to stay and settle my debt? The answer is simple: “I did it because I want to prosper in everything I do.” If I had driven away, without paying I may have saved a few dollars, but [...]

On average those with outrageous talent face fewer struggles before making it big in their chosen profession, because everyone recognize something great when they see/hear/experience it and instantly want more of it. Hence, most of us at one time or another envied those who had more talent than us, or wished we had a little more talent ourselves. However when these born stars reach the pinnacle of success, they seem to struggle to adapt to their new-found fame and wealth. In an effort to cope with these new pressures many of them turn to substances that provide a temporary escape, such as alcohol and drugs. Prescription drugs seem to be the new craze. I’m sure you can think of a few stars who fit this bill. So, one has to wonder… may having too much talent, in fact be a bad thing? It is a well-known fact that going through tough times before you make it, gives you more resiliency and builds character… something which most of the rapid rising stars don’t have in their arsenal. So when their time in the limelight eventually comes, it appears these battle-hardened late bloomers take it all in their stride… Remaining grounded and [...]

What I learned from Steve Jobs about success…

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.” – Steve Jobs The above quote by Steve Jobs tells you to look back in your past and learn lessons from there… lessons that you can apply in the future to get the results you seek. Success leaves clues and so too does failure. By studying your successes you can pinpoint the exact times and instances where you succeeded and repeat those conditions. Similarly, you can study the times when you failed and avoid those actions in the future. The problem is… most of us want absolutely nothing to do with the past because it represents the pain of failure. However, there’s something to learn from every one of our experiences, even the painful ones. In his quest to perfect the light bulb Thomas Edison conducted thousands of experiments, which didn’t seem to work. For many of us that would have been [...]

You’re correct if you finished the phrase with “who you are” or “your future.” Friends play an integral part in our lives that they can either lift us up or keep us down. Very few of us had the right type of friends when we were growing up. The types of friends we usually start out with are the ones who keep us down. Those of us who had bigger dreams had to make a choice to break-out and get new friends. Friends who think like us and will support and encourage us. It is often said that you can’t choose your family, which is very true. However you can choose who you hang out and spend your time with. When you decide that a certain individual or group of individuals can no longer be your friends, you must make a clean and complete break. Because if you don’t, you’ll find that they will sabotage your success at every turn by sowing doubt, and will keep you from accomplishing your goals and dreams. A good case in point is a gentleman who about a month ago, purchased a self-help product I promoted. A couple of days ago he writes and [...]

I believe that there is a place and a time for someone to begin fulfilling their purpose. How else can you explain the exceptional performances of Jeremy Lin? Jeremy Lin is a basketball player with the New York Knicks that until 2 weeks ago, was unknown to even most of the New York Knicks fans. Yet, today every basketball fan all over the world has heard about Lin, thanks to his exceptional performances during the last 2 weeks. One of the most recent headlines on the WABC website read “Jeremy Lin outplayed Kobe Bryant!” Not only did Lin outplay Kobe, but he scored a career-high 38 points and led the Knicks to their first win over the Los Angeles Lakers in their last 10 meetings. According to a report on WABC website “Lin was buried deep on the bench a little more than a week ago” before he led the Knicks to their fourth straight win. This win tied their longest streak of the season. His two free throws with 52 seconds left chants stopped the Lakers’ final rally. Lin has now passed Carmelo Anthony for the highest-scoring game by a Knicks player this season. Lin followed his 28-point, eight-assist [...]

The other day while thinking about success, perseverance and commitment I remembered an episode of “I shouldn’t be alive” I loved that show because the stories portrayed in it demonstrated how the power of hope, faith, perseverance, commitment and of course prayer can turn around situations in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. The particular episode I remembered is entitled “lost in the snow.” It depicted a real-life drama that played itself out in late December 1992 when a young couple and their 5 month old son were traveling from Northern California to a funeral in Idaho. On route while driving through Nevada, they missed the sign leading to the city and instead drove into an uninhabited national park which was closed for the winter. Meanwhile a blizzard descended on the area, blanketing everything in snow. Lost and realizing that they are unlikely to be rescued in time, the couple with baby-in-tow abandoned their vehicle and ventured out in the snow, hoping to locate a major road. The mother and baby struggled to keep up, and the husband left them under a huge rock and continued on. He walked for many hours, barely allowing himself any rest for he knew [...]

Yesterday I was listening to money guru Suze Orman talk to Rosie O’Donnel and the topic was yes, money. I picked up several tidbits that I felt was significant and that I want to share with you. The show was part Rosie interviewing Suze and part of it was Rosie getting money advice. Suze explained to Rosie that money is spiritual and is linked to your emotions. Whether you have it or you don’t have it, your emotions usually have something to do with it. This is a total departure from mainstream thinking which suggests that the amount of money you have is proportional to how hard you work. Rosie proceeded to tell Suze that she feels guilty for all the money she has and continue to receive especially during these tough economic times when so many ohers are don’t have jobs and are homeless. Suze identified 4 (four) emotions that repel money, and they are: 1. fear 2. shame 3. guilt 4. anger So there you have it… if you’re struggling with money… getting it and keeping it, than you know where to look for the problem and the solution. So many people told me they’ve visualized and did [...]

I recently read a real-life story about a woman who had been looking for love for a long-long time, with no success. She had been on all kinds of dating programs including blind-dates and speed-dating. She even tried online dating programs… but that too didn’t work. It’s not that she didn’t meet men… she did. It’s just that none of the men she met were that one person she wanted to spend the rest of her lie with. So after she had tried everything people “normally” do to get love and still didn’t succeed, she began to think maybe she wasn’t meant to meet that one person. Maybe she was too picky… maybe she should just settle. All of these are thoughts and doubts she had. But then a friend of hers suggested something she had never thought about… the friend asked, “why don’t you put up a billboard?” Although not 100% convinced that the idea would work she seriously considered it… especially since she had run out of options. The one thing she was worried about is that the people who see her billboard may think she’s desperate. After thinking about it for a while she came to the [...]

Real Madrid has played yesterday against FC Barcelona and lost, again… This is the 9th time since May 7, 2008 that these two teams played… a total of 9 games, and during this time Real Madrid managed only one victory. On May 28, 2010 Real Madrid appointed twice Champion’s League Winning Coach Jose Mourinho to try and break FC Barcelona’s domination. However in Mourinho’s very first match in charge, FC Barcelona humiliated Real Madrid 5 – 0. The greatest criticism against Mourinho in most of the games Real Madrid lost including last week’s first leg Copa del Rey defeat is the fact that he is seen as being too defense-minded. In other words, he plays not-to-lose rather than to win… and there is a very big difference between the two. FC Barcelona on the other hand is an attack-minded team that always plays to win, no matter who they play or where they play. This is currently the biggest difference between the two teams. The same scenario daily plays itself out in life… and unfortunately most of us are defense-minded. We play with extreme caution, trying not to lose… but in the end, that’s what happens. Quantum Physicists tell us [...]

If you’ve listened to any number of self-help experts including Oprah Winfrey you probably heard them say “just be yourself” or “be authentic.” But just exactly what does that mean? For a very long time I struggled to be authentic, because I didn’t know what it meant. I sort of understood it on an intellectual level, but had a hard time translating this understanding to just “BE” authentic. Even today I still fail to be authentic at times. However I came to realize that I’m not the only one who had a problem being myself. There are billions of people all over the world just like me. So why is it so hard for us to just be ourselves? In order to answer this question lets first look at what it means to Be authentic or Be yourself. The Reference Dictionary www.dictionary.reference.com defines authenticity as: “not false or copied; genuine;” People who are themselves: are happy have fun (treat life as a game, pokes fun at themselves and their supposed “bad moments” or “less than perfect features.” A perfect example is Tyra Banks who poked fun at her “big forehead” during an ABC interview.) live life to the full follow [...]
