How You Can Make a Difference and Change Your World!

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

Money gives us many opportunities to do well and to make a difference. But what do we do when we haven’t “arrived” yet?

Do we wait until we have the money before we start making a difference? If you can’t make a difference while you don’t have a lot of money, you are unlikely to change just because you have money. You see. If you are a selfish poor man, you’ll likely become a selfish rich man.

As somebody once said: “Money doesn’t change you, it just multiplies the situation you were already in.” What does it take to make a difference? A lot of the time it doesn’t take very much.

A compliment, a smile, giving someone a lift or a friendly word here and there, all go a long way towards making a difference.

As you can see from the above, it doesn’t cost much to make a difference. All it takes is a willingness to touch others in a way you would like to be touched. When we do that, we are touched in ways we cannot imagine. No amount of money can buy the feeling you get when you do good to someone else. The unadulturated joy they experience when you do something they hadn’t expected, is something to behold.

I remember this one day, when I decided to give the equivalent of slightly less than US$100, to this lady in my church. This is someone who had always encouraged me, when others thought I wouldn’t make it.

At the time I still didn’t have a lot of money, and couldn’t really “afford” to give any away, but decided to do it anyway. As it turned out she needed that money much more than me, and it came at the right time. I will never forget the tears of joy that ran down her cheeks as she hugged me, while thanking me profusely.

You don’t have to wait for Christmas or some other time to make a difference, as some people do. There are opportunities for you to do good throughout the year, every year for as long as you are alive.

As it is written in the scriptures: “How can you love God whom you haven’t seen, yet not love your brother whom you see everyday?”

Good Things Come to Those Who Wait

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Many people eagerly start with the law of attraction, but gives up after a little while when it appears as if their desires are not forthcoming. Does it mean that the law of attraction is not working? Not at all.

Let me use an analogy to explain what actually happens.

When a farmer wants to eat oranges, he gets himself an orange seed, make a hole in the ground and plant the seed. Once that is done he adds fertiliser to the ground, waters it regularly and…, you guessed right, he waits!

However, in contrast most people in the world, who want to eat oranges would go and buy them. They don’t want seed because that would mean they would have to wait. They would rather have an orange not after a year or two years, but here and now. However the only way you will get oranges that are ripe and ready to eat is if you buy them.

But what if you are poor, where will you get the money to buy the fruits you want, again and again? The farmer will certainly not give them to you for free, because it took him years to plant, water, and care for that tree that bears him the fruits.

There is a saying: Give a man a fish, and you’ll feed him for one day. Teach him to fish and you’ll feed him for a lifetime.

The laws of success are no different from the law of agriculture. To attain success, wealth and happiness you must understand that there is some waiting required.

All the rich and famous people you see and admire today, waited for their success. It didn’t come instantly. There is a purpose in the waiting, for it prepares you for the time when you would have the success. There are many who didn’t wait for their success. It came instantly, and departed just as swiftly as it came.

When they read the title many people may think, that waiting is all you and that there is nothing else to it. Well, let me tell you its far from it. To tell you the truth, there are billions of people who are sitting on their backsides and waiting for their ship full of wealth to pull into the harbor one day.

But I can assure you that for 99.99 percent of those people that would never happen. So what am I then talking about?

What I’m talking about is, following the farmers example and finding some seed, and planting it. Now in your case this doesn’t literally have to be an orange seed. It can be an idea you have to use your talents creatively and to do something different with your life.

I didn’t mention this at the beginning, but when the farmer chooses a seed, he doesn’t just pick any seed. He picks a seed that is most suited to his farm, his weather and his environment. In the same way, when you pick a seed it shouldn’t be any seed or idea. The best ideas are rare and unique ideas that nobody thought of before.

It should be something unique to you that will suit your style and compliment your personality. Ideas are easy to find and don’t cost money just as seeds are inexpensive. But it is what you do with it afterwards that counts.

Before a farmer plants the seed he prepares the ground, with fertilizer. When you pick an idea you should think it through and plan how best you can implement it.

After planting the seed the farmer makes sure that the seed receives enough water. He may have to make a sand wall around to keep the water from running off. When he has done everything that is required, the farmer waits for the seed to germinate.

You should do the same with your project. See it as a little seed that you need to take care of and soon, you too will have a thriving project that will return with interest what you invested in time and effort.

Last week has seen the launch of yet another record breaking Harry Potter Book. All those records mean more money for the author J.K. Rowling and I know that many people silently wish that she would throw some of those millions their way. But that is unlikely to happen, for those millions are the fruits of the seed she planted and which eventually became a huge business.

She was a single mother struggling to make ends meet. All she had was a desire to succeed coupled with the talent to weave stories of magic. At the time, she herself didn’t realise the huge potential of her talent. She nevertheless used this as her seed and the rest as they, is history. It didn’t happen overnight. It required effort and time, but in the end it paid off handsomely.

Tough Losses Teach You About Success!

Friday, March 21st, 2008

Many of those who made it, as well as those who haven’t made it yet, know what I’m talking about. You have trained incredibly hard and told yourself, “it would be different this time. This time I’m going to be the one collecting the silverware and the winners check.”

But in the end it is like Deja Vu, and your world comes tumbling down yet again. Venus and Serena know the feeling all too well, because they made it to so may semi-finals and finals, just to lose.

So too does Andre Agassi, Martina Hingis, Goran Ivanesivic and arguably the world’s most exciting rugby team, the All Blacks from New Zealand.

Sometimes you lose because you may not have prepared adequately, but most of the time you lose while you should have won. It is especially this fact, that makes the loss so hard to take. Losses like these will either shape you as a champion, someone who triumphs through adversity, or a mere pretender.

As hard as they are, these losses teaches us something about success. It teaches us that success is not always about speed and power, but that it is sometimes about:

  • Patience
  • Mental focus
  • Holding your nerve at critical moments
  • Enjoying the process
  • Thinking quickly and acting decisively

All of the above are qualities that a champion needs, but most aspiring winners and champions lack them. They think just because they have the power and the speed they have everything.

At the 1998 Wimbledon Final Goran Ivanesivic had all the power and the speed anyone could want, but he didn’t have the patience and mental toughness that Pete Sampras had. The same can be said about the All Blacks from New Zealand who despite having the most lethal back-line in the rugby world were beaten by underdogs Australia.

Lets face it. When you are competing at the very top, there’s very little that separates the winner from the loser in terms of preparation and physical conditioning.

The one who wins is usually the one who makes the least mistakes on the day and who can take the best decisions at critical moments.

At the top it is all about pressure. Physical and mental pressure. When you are in control of your emotions and you can handle all the pressure, it doesn’t matter if you are down 5 zero. Because you can stop thinking about the score and focus on every point, just making sure that you secure it. When you do that the scoreboard will take care of itself.

Those who lose are usually not defeated by their opponents. They defeat themselves, by not being focused enough or not being in control of their emotions.

Most of the many semi-final and final matches Serena and Venus Williams lost can be blamed on unforced errors such as double faults. It took a while for them to get their emotions under control, but once they did, nobody could stop them.

So if you have experienced some tough losses, know this. It is not the end. It was just a lesson you needed to learn. Learn from it and you will soon become unstoppable. You will keep on winning and it wouldn’t matter what any of your opponents do.

The Great Michael Johnson realized this and that is why he always said: “I don’t think about other athletes, I only focus on myself. When I get it right, I will be the winner.” As simple as that.

All the real-life examples I gave are from the sporting world, but they are not the only ones who experience pressure or tough losses. We all do. Imagine being invited for an interview for your dream job and not getting it because you were unable to give your best performance.

Tough losses are there to learn from. However if you don’t learn from them, and change the things you do wrong, especially as far as your mental conditioning goes, you will always end up second best.

Lessons from the Biblical Promised Land

Monday, March 17th, 2008

When the Israelites heard that God was going to take them to the promised land they were excited as I’m sure you would be too. The road to the promised land however turned out not to be, what they expected. They expected to be taken there speedily and in comfort, but instead the road took them through the desert and they endured all kinds of hardships.

Food was scarce and so was water, yet there wasn’t a single night they went to bed without having eaten or having quenched their thirst. God provided in their needs in miraculous ways.

But the people of God were not happy and started to long back to their life in Egypt. Even though they were slaves, food was widely available and they could eat and drink whenever they pleased. They wanted to get to the promised land as soon as possible and didn’t see the need to go through all the trouble.

Although the Israelites didn’t realize it then, the difficulties they went through had a purpose. It was preparing them for the promised land. We always think of ourselves as “right” and ready for whatever life wants to give us, but the truth is, most of the time we are not. And it is only when we are put in a pressure cooker, if you will, that our true character is formed.

And even though we don’t like this process when we go through it, we are always glad afterwards. Because hindsight gives us the benefit of looking back from our destination and seeing which was the best route.

The story I portrayed happened a long time ago, but is still relevant today. The promise of a land of milk and honey is as real and as appealing to us today as it was for the Israelites. But just as the route of the Bible went through the desert, our route also sometimes go through the desert.

In order to get to the promised land, we sometimes have to endure hardships and make sacrifices, which in the end becomes worthwhile.

There is the well-known saying, “easy come, easy go.” We all know people who gained instant wealth, and lost it just as instantly.

Why is this? Because they were not prepared. Lasting wealth and happiness takes time and effort. Most people in the world are not happy where they are, but choose to remain there because they want the easy life.

Opportunity May Be Knocking at Your Door Right Now!

Friday, March 14th, 2008

Opportunities are everywhere… opportunities to do and be anything and everything you ever wanted to be! In fact, Bill Gates is quoted as saying “there has never been a time like the present, with so many opportunities.” Its almost like the California gold rush, only it’s so much bigger, because of the global reach of the internet and other global technologies. The possibilities are endless!

Everybody is “looking” for opportunities, but very see it and even fewer exploit it. There’s the now famous story of the two men who visited India together. Upon their arrival in India one of the men was so struck and rather appalled by the abject poverty of the masses. His companion however, saw something else.

He saw an opportunity, an opportunity to shoe millions of feet and make himself a fortune in the process.

This man is said to have gone on and established a shoe company which produced millions of shoes and made him a very wealthy man.

There are thousands of other similar stories, of people who turned what seemed to be somebody’s problem into a fortune, including the story of South African born Hotel magnate Sol Kerzner.

Kerzner turned an Island in the Bahamas which was considered only good enough to be used as a rubbish dump, into what is today known as the resort Island, Atlantis.

Opportunities come disguised in many forms and shapes. They may come disguised as hard work, hardships, difficulties and obstacles. When you see them as opportunities and take them, who knows where you may end up?

Consider this: You may say I’m not going to knock on that door, because I don’t like knocking on doors. The person opening that door may give you the big break you have been looking for, but you may just have missed it forever. After all how could you have guessed? That’s right! You couldn’t have.

Ever heard someone say, “It was a blessing in disguise?”

There are opportunities to make money, opportunities for happiness but there are also opportunities for personal growth. Opportunities to discover what you are capable of, to turn weaknesses into strengths. Opportunities to help others and help your self in the process. There are opportunities to bless and be blessed in return.

Do you see all these opportunities? And if you do, do you take them? Or are you like those people who are ONLY looking for that one BIG opportunity that will turn you into an instant millionaire.

Sun Tzu puts it so eloquently when he says, “opportunities multiply as they are seized”

People who disregard all other opportunity, while waiting for that one big opportunity don’t know what they are missing. They may in fact be missing the Big Opportunity itself, because you never know where every opportunity may take you, if you embrace it.

However there’s one thing I know, won’t get you anywhere. And that is sitting in your comfort chair, trying to figure out which is opportunity and which is not.

So, here is my advice, try everything and test everything. So what, if you failed or if things didn’t work out. You have would have learned at least one thing. That particular venture isn’t worthwhile or the method doesn’t work. Don’t allow your own cynicism or that of other people rob you of what may potentially be your Biggest and Best Opportunity.

If you currently do not see any opportunities… then you need to change your focus and look at the world differently. Click Here Now and Get a Vision Board - A Vision Board Will Illuminate Your Mind and Help You See What’s Possible!

What You Think is the Only Thing That Matters!

Monday, March 10th, 2008

The other day I was listening to a song on the radio. The song is by a well-known artist and it wasn’t the first time I had heard it that day.

It is probably the most requested song the last couple of months on all radio stations, not only where I live, but all over the world. Needless to say, the song is a hit.

So what is the problem? The problem is that I don’t particularly like the song and I’m sure there are some other people who also don’t like it that much.

It is not that it is a bad song, it’s just that I don’t think it is THAT good. So good that it is played over and over on the radio and that it can remain on the top of the music charts.

So Leonard, what is your point?

Well, my point is: Who am I anyway that it would matter to YOU or ANYBODY else what I think. Does the fact that I or somebody else may or may not think much of you or your talent mean that you don’t have what it takes to become a hit?

As this example above clearly shows, it doesn’t. So why should what anybody say to you about your ability, or lack of it matter to you? So much so, that it causes you to give up, believing that your gift is worthless?

Yet, that is exactly what is happening. Every year, millions of people give up on their dreams, just because somebody said they were not good enough or they didn’t have what it takes to make it.

I can give you a dozen examples of people who were once told their ideas and their talents and abilities were not good enough, yet went on and made it regardless. Just because they refused to accept what they were told.

So what I’m trying to say is this.

It doesn’t matter what your father, mother or teacher say or think about your talent. All you need is an unshakeable BELIEF in YOURSELF and your ABILITIES, and I don’t see why you cannot make it.

Obviously it won’t be easy. There will likely be obstacles and it may take time. However if you are prepared to take the time and make the effort, I see no reason why you can’t be a hit too, even if I don’t like it.

How to Go on, When the Going Gets Tough!

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

There has never been a more opportune time to follow your heart and realize your dreams. However getting to the pot of gold is not always easy. It takes dedication, commitment and the willingness to do whatever it takes.

So how do you go on when the going gets tough. When you have dug and toiled, day after day, week after week, and you experience all kinds of disappointments and frustrations.

When you have used the best scientific data, indicating the best locations to dig and are still not finding the rich deposit, which you know is there somewhere. Or when you have developed the best looking website, developed the best product and what you think is the best sales copy, and you still fail to make the sales that you know should follow?

Do you say it is not working and give up, like the gold prospector in Napoleon Hill’s classic “think and grow rich”, who stopped just 3 feet from his pot of gold?

What do you do when everything you know, doesn’t seem to work?

The best thing to do is to take time out and become still. Yes, stop toiling for a while and make some quiet time, because its no use just hammering away if you are hitting at the wrong place.

The quiet time will help you reflect on what you have done so far and gain some new perspective. Take a book that has inspired you countless times or the Bible and read.

Don’t put pressure on yourself trying to find an answer, just let yourself go, any whichever way and the answers will come.

Take a piece of paper and just write. What about? Anything really. You can write about the confusion you feel.

Talk to yourself, not negative stuff that will make you feel worse then you already do, but tell yourself that you are getting the answers you are looking for. Don’t talk as someone who is without hope but talk like someone who knows its only a matter of time.

Most importantly though, listen to yourself, and then try again using some of the new insights you have gained from your inner person, your subconscious.

Sometimes, you’re at the right place, you just need to go 3 feet further down or 3 feet to the left, or right. Or sometimes the time just isn’t right and you just need to wait a little while longer.

But these are things no scientific data will ever tell you. This is something which comes from inside you, your subconscious mind which knows everything. That is why it is important to take time out and listen, because if you don’t you may just miss the key you need and waste an awful lot of time and money.

Here’s something else you can do. Every time you feel discouraged or a little afraid, go and read about your icons or heroes. How they started out. How they felt, when they were still at the bottom, the things they said and did when it really got rough, and be inspired. If possible try and trace a childhood friend of your heroes and talk to them.

In his classic, “Think and Grow Rich” Napoleon Hill describes how his subjects held imaginary conversations with great men who went before them. The result was that afterwards they became more inspired.

Imagine having an intimate, one on one conversation with Bill Gates or Henry Ford, and asking them all the questions you’ve always wanted to ask them.

It would be awesome wouldn’t it. When you come out of there you will be so focused on your goal that nothing anybody say will discourage you.

Something else you should do is to continuously remind yourself that everybody who is now successful, was once at the very place where you are now. The important thing is that they didn’t remain there.

If you are serious about attaining your goals you will also not remain there. But remember, it requires commitment and dedication even through the tough times.

Oh, how sweet it is to hold that prize after all the struggling. That’s when you realize all the trials and tribulations were worth it. But you will never savor that experience, you will never know how good it feels when you give up.

Personal Growth, Personal Independence: The Limit Is Me

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

One day all the employees reached the office and they saw a big advice on the door on which it was written:
“Yesterday the person who has been hindering your growth in this company passed away. We invite you to join the funeral in the room that has been prepared in the gym”.

In the beginning, they all got sad for the death of one of their colleagues, but after a while they started getting curious to know who was that man who hindered the growth of his colleagues and the company itself.

The excitement in the gym was such that security agents were ordered to control the crowd within the room.
The more people reached the coffin, the more the excitement heated up. Everyone thought: “Who is this guy who was hindering my progress? Well, at least he died!”.

One by one the thrilled employees got closer to the coffin, and when they looked inside it they suddenly became speechless. They stood nearby the coffin, shocked and in silence, as if someone had touched the deepest part of their soul.

There was a mirror inside the coffin: everyone who looked inside it could see himself.
There was also a sign next to the mirror that said:
“There is only one person who is capable to set limits to your growth: it is YOU.
You are the only person who can revolutionize your life. You are the only person who can influence your happiness, your realization and your success. You are the only person who can help yourself.

Your life does not change when your boss changes, when your friends change, when your parents change, when your partner changes, when your company changes. Your life changes when YOU change, when you go beyond your limiting beliefs, when you realize that you are the only one responsible for your life.

“The most important relationship you can have, is the one you have with yourself”

Examine yourself, watch yourself. Don’t be afraid of difficulties, impossibilities and losses: be a winner, build yourself and your reality.

The world is like a mirror: it gives back to anyone the reflection of the thoughts in which one has strongly believed.

The world and your reality are like mirrors laying in a coffin, which show to any individual the death of his divine capability to imagine and create his happiness and his success.
It’s the way you face Life that makes the difference
Have a nice day
