Does your mind need a super nanny?

Friday, May 7th, 2010

If you cannot focus on one thing at a time, then you need a super nanny for your mind. Don’t know who Super Nanny is?

Well, Super Nanny is a parenting show that runs on ABC and features a British woman by the name of Jo Frost. Jo is an expert in turning wayward out of control children into disciplined and loving beings.

The show usually starts with a married couple or a single mother with a two or more out of control kids who do whatever they want, whenever they want and don’t follow any rules or orders from their parents. So, after having tried everything they know to get their children into line, the desperate parents finally turn to Super Nanny for help.

Super Nanny would come over and first just watch the parents interact with their children. Then she will come up with a plan of action that she expects the parents to implement.

At the end of the intervention, the parents would be turned into effective parents with new skills and the children would listen to their parents and order would be restored in this former chaotic household.

So, you’re probably wondering… what does my mind have to do with Super nanny and unruly children?

Plenty, actually… you see, just as children become unruly if they are not subjected to a structure with consistent boundaries, so too your mind does whatever it wants if it doesn’t have boundaries that are consistent.

That is why you will find that you have difficulty concentrating on one thing for a period of time, because your mind is not used to it.

If your mind has been used to thinking about failure or lack, you cannot suddenly start thinking success, just as you cannot suddenly make an unruly child listen to you.

You have to recognize that you’re dealing with a habit… and the only way to break an undesirable habit is to introduce another habit, which is more desirable.

A habit is a set of unconscious behaviors that we engage in. When we do something consistently for more than 21 days it will become a habit (automatic behavior).

So what Super Nanny does is… she teaches the parents new strategies (which will become habits). As they introduce these new strategies in the home, it consistently required different behaviors from the children. The result: the children formed new habits.

The children were the way they were, because of the way the parents were. In other words, the bad habits of the parents instilled bad habits in the children.

When Super Nanny arrived, she changed the bad habits of the parents into good habits, which resulted in the children developing new habits.

Finally, order and peace is restored.

The same thing is going on with your mind. Trying to apply the law of attraction with old habits will not work. You are defeated, before you even begin. Your mind will constantly go back to what it knows, which are the thoughts and beliefs aligned to failure. If you want to attract success, you need to create new habits and new ways of thinking that are aligned to success and will support your expansion.

Luke 5:37-38 “And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins”.

Why it is important to control your mind

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

Have you ever heard the saying, “He who controls his mind, controls his life”

The opposite of that statement is equally true… He who doesn’t control his mind has no control over his life. When we look at the world today, we see the manifestation of this last statement. People are constantly blaming others for what happens in their lives, from politicians to ordinary people. The news media eagerly reports on the various statements made by well-known people, each one criticizing and blaming somebody else for something.

Nobody wants to take responsibility for anything that happens in their lives. No wonder, the world is in a mess and our financial systems are in ruins.

How can we stop this madness? How can we start to become people who take responsibility for our institutions?

It all has to start with each of us taking personal responsibility for what happens in our individual lives. The only way that we can do that is by starting to take control of our minds.

You cannot control what others do or what happens around you, but you can control your mind.

By controlling your mind, you in essence control:

    1) the thoughts you think

    2) the beliefs you hold

    3) the actions you take

    4) the words you speak

    5) the images that run around in your head

    6) your emotions

    7) your attitude

When you control the above, you can have and be anything that you want.

How so?

Everything around you is energy. All the buildings, mountains, oceans including the stars and our solar system are energy at its most basic form. And so are our bodies and our thoughts.

Remember when you felt invincible or confident, how things just seemed to work out for you? Have you ever thought why that happened? It is the energy that was in you at that time that made everything smooth.

Now do you remember, the times when you were down and depressed or angry… how things just seemed to go wrong? That was the low negative energy that attracted equally negative situations to you.

The law of attraction is always at work, attracting like to like.

Your mind is the magnet that attracts everything that you experience in your life.

When you’re not in control of your mind, you have a victim mentality. You see everything that happens to you as caused by someone else and hence you blame those whom you feel are responsible. However people who control their minds recognize that they have the power. For this reason, they pay special attention to the:

    1) thoughts they think,

    2) the beliefs they hold

    3) the actions they take

    4) the words they speak

    5) the images that run around in their heads

    6) their emotions

    7) their attitude.

They know that the moment they let their mind go on its own tangent it will cause trouble. So they have to keep it in check.

Think of your untrained mind as a child who is not subjected to regular discipline and always gets his way. The moment you step in and say “no” he is likely to throw a temper tantrum. Why, because he is not used to it so he will rebel and protest against any effort to try and control his behavior.

In the same way, your mind will resist and protest when you start to discipline it. However as you persist and continue to subject it to discipline and make it a routine it will accept and do whatever you require of it.

An untrained and rebellious mind is the reason why most people fail to realize their dreams. They may learn about the law of attraction and try visualization and affirmations, but the petulant mind will always jump in at critical moments and sabotage your success through procrastination, anger, un-forgiveness and doubt.

Therefore it is critical to your success that you rein in your mind. What are the ways in which you can start to exert control your mind?

    1) Meditation – Meditation is one of the best ways to control your mind, because you teach it to be still or to focus on what you want it to focus. When meditating you can focus either on your breathing (inhaling and exhaling) or you can count backwards from 100.

    2) Mindfulness – Mindfulness refers to being aware at all times of what you’re thinking at all times. By doing this you can become aware of your thoughts at all times and correct it, if you find yourself thinking negative thoughts. Mindfulness will also allow you to take deliberate action. Instead of reacting to everything that happens to you, deliberate action enables you to only take actions that you consider to be in your best interests.

    3) Become organized – Organize your life and your work. As you become more organized you will help your mind to become less stressed about things.

    4) Keep your word – As you keep your word to yourself and to others you keep your mind from conjuring up fearful scenarios of things that can go wrong because you didn’t do something that you’re supposed to do.

The more you practice these tips, the more your mind will start rewarding you with the lifestyle and happiness you know you deserve.

Is It Really just A Coincidence?

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Many see coincidences as embedded in a higher, transcendental force, a cosmic “glue,” as it were, which binds random events together in a meaningful and coherent pattern. The question has always been: could such a harmonizing principle actually exist?

Or are skeptics right in regarding this as a product of wishful thinking, a consoling myth spawned by the intellectual discomfort and capriciousness of chance?

Mathematician Warren Weaver, in his book, Lady Luck: The Theory of Probability, recounts a fascinating tale of coincidence that stretches our traditional notions of chance to their breaking point.

The story originally appeared in Life magazine. Weaver writes:
All fifteen members of a church choir in Beatrice, Nebraska, due at practice at 7:20, were late on the evening of March 1, 1950.

The minister and his wife and daughter had one reason (his wife delayed to iron the daughter’s dress) one girl waited to finish a geometry problem; one couldn’t start her car; two lingered to hear the end of an especially exciting radio program; one mother and daughter were late because the mother had to call the daughter twice to wake her from a nap; and so on.

The reasons seemed rather ordinary. But there were ten separate and quite unconnected reasons for the lateness of the fifteen persons. It was rather fortunate that none of the fifteen arrived on time at 7:20, for at 7:25 the church building was destroyed in an explosion.

The members of the choir, Life reported, wondered if their delay was “an act of God.” Weaver calculates the staggering odds against chance for this uncanny event as about one chance in a million.

Coincidences such as these, some say, are almost too purposeful, too orderly, to be a product of random chance, which strains somewhat to accommodate them. But then how do we explain them?

Another definition for SYNCHRONICITY

Synchronicity at this point can be defined as a series of seemingly unrelated events which are connected via a hidden agenda.

The recent publication of the SUPERSTRING theory indicates that there may well be ten dimensions in existence, not merely the four that ones senses are currently aware of. (Length, breadth, width, time)

There is now considerable mathematical proof to indicate that ten dimensions exist. And most quantum physicists have given serious consideration to this theory. It would appear that the “hidden agenda” of synchronistic events may be transparent and obvious in one or more of these ten dimensions, but become opaque and difficult to fathom when viewed in our current restricted four dimensions.

And there is now at last a small amount of evidence to indicate that when an individuals subconscious mind-set is modified to encourage positive PK synchronistic events (luck) then synchronistic elements may be set into play which materialistic as PK Luck events in our “real time” dimension.

And conversely when a person becomes aware of a series of synchronistic events they can use this special knowledge to trigger a burst of luck.

What has been definitely proven however is that the mind-set of an individual influences their interaction with the environment, to an extent which can leave a person “stunned” at the positive results.

What I have discovered over the past 4 years is that if I call up a dream program to “induce” synchronistic events in my waking life ….then instruct my mind to consciously recognize these events as a synchronistic train….I can usually recognize where they are leading to and be there at the right time and place to take advantage of them.

I have personally had at least a dozen of these recognizable synchronicity trains in the past 3 years and each one has bought me sometimes quite incredible luck. So much so that friends here in Vanuatu keep telling me how lucky I am!!

Why Good Vibrations Create A Better World

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

In his book ‘Power vs Force’, David Hawkins calibrates people’s emotions from levels 20 up to 1000. 20 being Shame which is perilously proximate to death. It’s destructive to emotional and psychological health, and makes us prone to physical illness.

At the other end of the scale at 700- 1000 is enlightenment. This is the level of the Great Ones such as Krishna, Buddha and Jesus. It is the peak of the evolutionary consciousness in the human realm.

All levels (which could be classed as vibration levels) below 200 are said to be energy draining, and below integrity. These vary from Guilt (30), Grief (75), Fear (100) up to Pride (175).

People feel positive as they reach Pride level. However Pride feels good only in contrast to the lower levels. Pride is defensive and vulnerable because it’s dependent upon external conditions, without which is can suddenly revert to a lower level.

At the 200 level, power first appears. Courage (200) is the zone of exploration, accomplishment, fortitude, and determination. People at this level put back into the world as much energy as they take; at the lower levels, populations as well as individuals drain energy from society without reciprocating.

Further levels include willingness (310), Acceptance (350) and Love (500).

This level is characterized by the development of a Love that is unconditional, unchanging, and permanent. It doesn’t fluctuate – its source isn’t dependent on external factors. Loving is a state of being. This is the level of true happiness.

Interesting facts from the book -

* The concept and theories behind these experiments were conducted over a 20 year period using a variety of Kinesiology tests and examinations.

* Kinesiology has an almost certain 100% accuracy reading every time. It will always reveal Yes, No, True, and False answers.

* Collective Consciousness: These experiments reveal that there is a higher power that connects everything and everyone.

* Everything calibrates at certain levels from weak to high including books, food, water, clothes, people, animals, buildings, cars, movies, sports, music etc.

* 85% of the human race calibrates below the critical level of 200.

* The overall average level of human consciousness stands at 207.

* Human consciousness was dangling at below the 200 level (190) for many centuries before it suddenly rose up to its present level some time in the mid 1980s. Hence Nostradamus’s end of the world predictions may have been avoided (he made his predictions at a time when human consciousness was at below the 200 level). For the world to stay at levels below 200 over a prolonged period of time would cause a great imbalance that would undoubtedly lead to the destruction of all humanity.

* The power of the few individuals at the top counterbalances the weakness of the masses.

* 1 individual at level 300 counterbalances 90,000 individuals below level 200

* 1 individual at level 500 counterbalances 750,000 individuals below level 200

* 1 individual at level 700 counterbalances 70 million individuals below level 200

In other words, as a co creator of the world, if you vibrate at 200 and above you will be helping to raise the consciousness of mankind, and be a big part in creating a better world for everyone.

The Power Of Imagination!

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it’s always your choice.” –Wayne Dyer.

Recently one of my elite coaching club members and I were having a conversation and it reminded me of a great technique which I’ve used a lot with very positive results. This is an elegant exercise in how to manufacture a positive outcome. This outcome can be in general, and can also be laser focused on all aspects of our lives. . .
relationships, health, wellness, business, finances. . .anything.

I understand this might seem silly at first blush. However, I am willing to exist in a state of silliness if the outcome means more clients, more money, more happiness, more of what I want. I will absolutely do what it takes to have more of what I want and silly is a small price to pay. I just ask that you suspend any cynicism and allow the potential of this to flow through you.

Here’s one technique that I like to use: I imagine a cloud filled with positive thoughts. If I’m working on a business deal, my goal is always for the most beneficial outcome for everyone involved.

My imagination cloud will cover the entire area surrounding our interaction, for example, an office. And my cloud holds anything I want it to hold–watchtowers around the perimeter or missiles to zap out negative thinking and problems that might arise in the course of negotiations.

I often think of the cloud over my prospect’s head clearing and letting the sun shine down, the sun’s rays being a golden opportunity for us to work together, the golden opportunity to see things the way I want him/her to see things. Other times, I imagine a genie swooping down bringing gold bars to show the prospect representing all of the richness available in our interaction.

How To Become A Winner!

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Love him or hate him, but you cannot ignore him, much less deny that he is a winner. From Mr. Olympia and Mr. Universe to Hollywood blockbuster movie hero to governor of California, Arnold Swarzenegger has confounded his critics and his detractors.

Even when the allegations of sexual impropriety came, as they always seem to do in politics, he didn’t slow down. He admitted it and kept going.

He didn’t allow this or any other thing to distract him. He kept focussing on the task at hand, which was to become the governor of California.

How many times were you focussed on something, when somebody came with an allegation or revealed something you may or may not have done in the past. And when that thing came it blew you off-course and cause you to lose your momentum.

On your journey to success there will always be distractions. There will always be critics and detractors, but you cannot allow them to derail your plans and lose your focus because of them.

When these things come, don’t try and run from them. Confront them and deal with them like Arnold did. If it’s true admit it and move on, don’t try and deny it, because it won’t stop.

I don’t know if you noticed, but while his opponents and the media were specualting about the impact of the allegations on his campaign, Arnold ws already celebrating. As far as he was concerned, he was already the governor of California.

There are all kinds of analysts and political commentators who are speculating about why Arnold won. The explanations are endless and range from his celebrity status to his wealth.

I don’t know about any of that. What I know is that Arnold Swarzenegger knows how to win.

He has proven it many times before. Long before he saw the bright lights of Hollywood, he set his sights on became a champion bodybuilder, and even the Austrian winter could not distract him as he trained outside in near freezing temperatures.

Arnold Swarzenegger knows that success starts as a state of mind and that what you observe with your eyes physically is not reality, but a mere manifestation of the reality you have already created in your mind.

When he appeared at Mr. Olympia Arnold walked like a champion long before he was crowned. He seized the moment.

While the other contestants were thinking about the judges and what they should do to impress the judges, Arnold already had visions of the judges declaring him as the winner.

After becoming Mr. Olympia, Arnold Swarzenegger set his sights on conquering Hollywood. Again there were detractors who were giving him many reasons why he will not succeed, one of which was that his heavy Austrian accent would be a stumbling block. As we all know today, it wasn’t. He made it in spite of his accent.

The lesson in all of this is. Don’t let anyone tell you you can do this or you cannot do that. Learn form Arnold Swarzenegger, whether you like him or agree with his views or not.

See how he has seized the most important moments in his life and seize the moment for yourself, no matter what your goals are.

Stop listening to the speculation of the media and gain the attitude of a winner, and you will soon start to win as Arnold Swarzenegger has done his whole life, often against the odds.

Tough Losses Teach You About Success!

Friday, March 21st, 2008

Many of those who made it, as well as those who haven’t made it yet, know what I’m talking about. You have trained incredibly hard and told yourself, “it would be different this time. This time I’m going to be the one collecting the silverware and the winners check.”

But in the end it is like Deja Vu, and your world comes tumbling down yet again. Venus and Serena know the feeling all too well, because they made it to so may semi-finals and finals, just to lose.

So too does Andre Agassi, Martina Hingis, Goran Ivanesivic and arguably the world’s most exciting rugby team, the All Blacks from New Zealand.

Sometimes you lose because you may not have prepared adequately, but most of the time you lose while you should have won. It is especially this fact, that makes the loss so hard to take. Losses like these will either shape you as a champion, someone who triumphs through adversity, or a mere pretender.

As hard as they are, these losses teaches us something about success. It teaches us that success is not always about speed and power, but that it is sometimes about:

  • Patience
  • Mental focus
  • Holding your nerve at critical moments
  • Enjoying the process
  • Thinking quickly and acting decisively

All of the above are qualities that a champion needs, but most aspiring winners and champions lack them. They think just because they have the power and the speed they have everything.

At the 1998 Wimbledon Final Goran Ivanesivic had all the power and the speed anyone could want, but he didn’t have the patience and mental toughness that Pete Sampras had. The same can be said about the All Blacks from New Zealand who despite having the most lethal back-line in the rugby world were beaten by underdogs Australia.

Lets face it. When you are competing at the very top, there’s very little that separates the winner from the loser in terms of preparation and physical conditioning.

The one who wins is usually the one who makes the least mistakes on the day and who can take the best decisions at critical moments.

At the top it is all about pressure. Physical and mental pressure. When you are in control of your emotions and you can handle all the pressure, it doesn’t matter if you are down 5 zero. Because you can stop thinking about the score and focus on every point, just making sure that you secure it. When you do that the scoreboard will take care of itself.

Those who lose are usually not defeated by their opponents. They defeat themselves, by not being focused enough or not being in control of their emotions.

Most of the many semi-final and final matches Serena and Venus Williams lost can be blamed on unforced errors such as double faults. It took a while for them to get their emotions under control, but once they did, nobody could stop them.

So if you have experienced some tough losses, know this. It is not the end. It was just a lesson you needed to learn. Learn from it and you will soon become unstoppable. You will keep on winning and it wouldn’t matter what any of your opponents do.

The Great Michael Johnson realized this and that is why he always said: “I don’t think about other athletes, I only focus on myself. When I get it right, I will be the winner.” As simple as that.

All the real-life examples I gave are from the sporting world, but they are not the only ones who experience pressure or tough losses. We all do. Imagine being invited for an interview for your dream job and not getting it because you were unable to give your best performance.

Tough losses are there to learn from. However if you don’t learn from them, and change the things you do wrong, especially as far as your mental conditioning goes, you will always end up second best.

Opportunity May Be Knocking at Your Door Right Now!

Friday, March 14th, 2008

Opportunities are everywhere… opportunities to do and be anything and everything you ever wanted to be! In fact, Bill Gates is quoted as saying “there has never been a time like the present, with so many opportunities.” Its almost like the California gold rush, only it’s so much bigger, because of the global reach of the internet and other global technologies. The possibilities are endless!

Everybody is “looking” for opportunities, but very see it and even fewer exploit it. There’s the now famous story of the two men who visited India together. Upon their arrival in India one of the men was so struck and rather appalled by the abject poverty of the masses. His companion however, saw something else.

He saw an opportunity, an opportunity to shoe millions of feet and make himself a fortune in the process.

This man is said to have gone on and established a shoe company which produced millions of shoes and made him a very wealthy man.

There are thousands of other similar stories, of people who turned what seemed to be somebody’s problem into a fortune, including the story of South African born Hotel magnate Sol Kerzner.

Kerzner turned an Island in the Bahamas which was considered only good enough to be used as a rubbish dump, into what is today known as the resort Island, Atlantis.

Opportunities come disguised in many forms and shapes. They may come disguised as hard work, hardships, difficulties and obstacles. When you see them as opportunities and take them, who knows where you may end up?

Consider this: You may say I’m not going to knock on that door, because I don’t like knocking on doors. The person opening that door may give you the big break you have been looking for, but you may just have missed it forever. After all how could you have guessed? That’s right! You couldn’t have.

Ever heard someone say, “It was a blessing in disguise?”

There are opportunities to make money, opportunities for happiness but there are also opportunities for personal growth. Opportunities to discover what you are capable of, to turn weaknesses into strengths. Opportunities to help others and help your self in the process. There are opportunities to bless and be blessed in return.

Do you see all these opportunities? And if you do, do you take them? Or are you like those people who are ONLY looking for that one BIG opportunity that will turn you into an instant millionaire.

Sun Tzu puts it so eloquently when he says, “opportunities multiply as they are seized”

People who disregard all other opportunity, while waiting for that one big opportunity don’t know what they are missing. They may in fact be missing the Big Opportunity itself, because you never know where every opportunity may take you, if you embrace it.

However there’s one thing I know, won’t get you anywhere. And that is sitting in your comfort chair, trying to figure out which is opportunity and which is not.

So, here is my advice, try everything and test everything. So what, if you failed or if things didn’t work out. You have would have learned at least one thing. That particular venture isn’t worthwhile or the method doesn’t work. Don’t allow your own cynicism or that of other people rob you of what may potentially be your Biggest and Best Opportunity.

If you currently do not see any opportunities… then you need to change your focus and look at the world differently. Click Here Now and Get a Vision Board - A Vision Board Will Illuminate Your Mind and Help You See What’s Possible!

Anything Is Possible!

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

One day I was reading a very interesting article concerning a shark attack that occurred way back in 1916. It played off along the North East coast of the U.S. and concerned a great white shark, that had been had been terrorizing the New Jersey beaches.

Now everybody knows and accepts that a shark is a creature of the sea and needs salty water to survive. Therefore nobody thought that a shark may attack them in freshwater, but that is exactly what happened later that year.

This particular shark remained close to the shore and eventually swam up a river stream around Raritan Bay, attacking a couple of bathers upstream.

Shortly before the attacks occurred, a retired Sea captain, by the name of Thomas Cottrell saw this shark swimming upstream while crossing a bridge. He couldn’t believe his eyes, but nevertheless got into his boat and raised the alarm. Not surprisingly nobody believed him. “A shark in a river? C’mon, get real, It’s not possible.”

But you know what? As incredible as it seemed there was a shark in the river and all those who didn’t heed the warnings were in danger of being attacked.

Eventually this shark killed two people. The first victim was a teenager who may or may not have heard Cottrell’s warning. Shortly after this attack another man jumped in the water to look for the victim, even though he was told there is a shark in the water. He too was attacked and died from a severe loss of blood.

While reading this I couldn’t help thinking about September 11 and see the parallels between these two stories.

When asked by the U.S. Congress and the media, why “clues” which should have been picked up were disregarded, the heads of the FBI and CIA as well as members of the Bush administration replied, “We didn’t think they would use airplanes as missiles.”

Had the FBI and CIA believed that something like what happened on 9/11 was possible they might have put measures into place which would likely have prevented this from happening. But they didn’t, even though the hijackers left dozens of “clues.”

Similarly if the swimmers at the US East Coast had believed Captain Cottrell when he told them there was a shark in the river, chances are that nobody would have been killed by this shark on that day.

But because they believed it is “impossible” for a shark to be found in freshwater they disregarded the warning altogether, just as the US law enforcement agencies did, resulting in many paying with their lives.

On the other hand there are human beings who overcame extraordinary odds and accomplished great feats. Everyday we hear stories of people who were told by the so-called “experts” they didn’t have what it took, yet made it regardless.

The lesson here is that anything is possible, both the good and the bad. By believing or not believing in something doesn’t mean you will not be affected by whatever happens. But it means that based on what you believe, you may take some action which may save you from something terrible or may get you out of a terrible situation.

There are many of us who are in terrible situations, including poverty, unhappiness, debt, etc. Those of us who have changed their situation, did it because they believed they could make it.

Those who don’t obviously don’t believe that they can change their situation otherwise they would have done something about it, right?

How many opportunities have you missed just because you thought it wouldn’t work or wasn’t possible. Just think what you could do if you believed that you could do anything, even realise your dreams?

What great talent do you have which you have done nothing about, because you probably believed you can’t do it.

I hope to have shown you through this short article that anything is possible. And that by just believing, “I Can,” your battle is already half-won.

Don’t Underestimate The Power Of Your Mind!

Friday, February 15th, 2008

He is one of the finest runners the world has even seen and has the 3rd highest number of sub 10 second 100 m runs. He became the first non-American to win the NCAA double (100m and 200m at the American Collegiate Championships)

He is one of only two man to have run the 200 m faster than 19:70-s. Only the great Michael Johnson ran the 200 m faster than him. Yet he has the distinction of never having won a 100-m gold medal in the Olympics or World Championships.

If you don’t know who I’m talking about, then allow me to enlighten you. I’m talking about my compatriot Frank Fredericks.

Shortly before the 1996 Olympics Fredericks was in blistering form, winning a number of International 100 m races in times that were tantalizingly close to the world record at the time. During one of these races Fredericks ran 9.86-s, just one hundredth of a second outside the world record and could have set a new record, had he not thrown up his arms in celebration, just before crossing the line.

When asked by journalists why he threw up his arms, and if this didn’t spoil his chance of breaking the world record, Fredericks replied, “I’m not worried about the world record. It’ll come when it is supposed to.” In the Olympic final race Fredericks was beaten by Canadian Donovan Bailey who won in a new record time of 9.84-s.

Had Fredericks ran in Atlanta, as he ran in Lausanne when he set 9.86-s, he would have crossed the finish line in roughly 9.81-s.

This, according to Jonas R. Mureika, a systems programmer at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, who developed a mathematical model of sprinting that compensates for wind effects in the 100-m dash, and converts measured times into equivalent times in still air.

The formula enabled Mureika to compare performances in all 100 m races on a more or less equal footing. Thus, Bailey’s 9.84-s world-record time, aided by a tail wind of 0.7 m/s, turns into the equivalent of 9.88-s in calm air. The race run in 1996 by Frank Fredericks into a head wind of 0.4 m/s becomes 9.80 s in calm air, surpassing Bailey’s world-record performance.

What this means is that if Frank had ran in Atlanta as fast as he ran in Lausanne, when he clocked 9.86-s, he would have crossed the finish line in roughly 9.81-s

Remember that Frederick’s time in Lausanne was not only against a headwind, it was also after he threw up his arms, meaning that Frank Fredericks’ time could have been even faster than the current world record, set by Montgomery.

His pre-championship race time of 9.86-s, is the closest Fredericks has ever come to breaking the 100 m world record and he is unlikely to write a record behind his name, as he is now 36 years of age.

Many are good, but few are great. It almost sounds like that other phrase in the Bible, “Many are called, but few are chosen”, doesn’t it, except nobody is choosing anybody here. It’s about the individual who chooses if he wants to be great. And if he makes that decision to follow it up with the necessary commitment.

Why do I say many are good but few are great? Because all that is required to become good is talent and training. However, to be good requires something else. It requires a different mental attitude.

Case in point. Maurice Green always wanted to be great. He told anyone who cared to listen that he would soon break the world record. He didn’t say when, only that it would happen. He dreamed of it, trained for it, and when the time came he, executed it. Tim Montgomery did the same thing. He said he was going to lower Green’s world record, and he did.

Arnold Swarzenegger, moviestar, aspiring politician and arguably the greatest bodybuilder ever, once said, “it’s all in your mind”, referring to success. While speaking two weeks ago at the City College of New York, Arnold told the students in the audience. “Have big dreams, and go after those dreams. That was my secret.”

Just last week Maurice Green told reporters that he is going to win the 100 metres at the World Championships in Paris, which coincidentally takes place on Monday, 25 August 2003, which is today.

Another thing that Green said is, “I like doing things that have never been done before” This is exactly how super successful people think. They strive on challenges and on proving people wrong. They hate the word, “average” and wants to absolutely be the best. They never leave anything to chance or say “it will happen when it is supposed to happen.” They make things happen!
